At Western Province CC, Avenue de Mist the NCU Northern Knights Under 15s defended a total of 241 while at the Vineyard Oval the Under 18s beat WPCA Academy by 13 runs.

Sport Northern Ireland has announced that the latest round of the Active Awards for Sport Programme has now opened. Coach education/CPD is an eligible activity and therefore may be of interest to the NCU's clubs.

Clarification of NCU's 2015 Registration Guidance
In November 2014 the guidance in relation to registration of players for the 2015 season was issued to clubs. Contained within it was specific guidance in relation to players who would be regarded as normally resident in the Union's area.

Regionalisation of NCU Junior Leagues
The NCU's Domestic Cricket Directorate has been giving consideration to the regionalisation of Junior Leagues.
As a first step it has looked at the possible regionalisation of NCU Junior Leagues 7, 8 and 9.

It is with great regret that I am letting you know about the untimely death of Peter Russell on Sunday 22nd February 2015.
Peter's funeral will be held at 11am on Saturday 28th February at Roselawn.

Lagan Valley Steels T20 Cup
The holders and runners-up of the NCU’s major Twenty20 tournament will avoid each other in the early stages this season.
Civil Service North clinched the NCU’s Lagan Valley Steels Cup with a 12-run victory over North Down last season but they have been separated in the initial group stages which involve the eight Ulster Bank Premier League clubs.

Northern Knights Select Winter Training Squad And Begin Pre-Season Training
The Northern Knights have kicked off their pre season in earnest, with nets & fitness training starting last week at UUJ. This is another big season for the team, led again, by Irish International Andrew White.

Templepatrick CC & Grange Women’s Group - Table Cricket Initiative
Templepatrick Cricket Club joined up with members of the Grange Women’s community group in Ballyclare to take part in a table cricket challenge. Table Cricket is the latest Cricket Ireland venture to promote alternative forms of cricket in the community and encourage participation, socialising and activity through cricket for relevant groups.

Neil Russell appointed NCU Public Relations Officer
The NCU are delighted to announce that Neil Russell has agreed to be its new Public Relations Officer with immediate effect. Neil is not only well known within NCU and Irish Cricketing circles but is also heavily involved with the Belfast Giants through their webcast commentary, as well as hosting & communications work with Premier Sports / Setanta Sports where he co-commentates on a regular basis.

Ulster Bank Schools Cup - First and Second Round Draws
The cricketers of Royal Belfast Academical Institution will begin their defence of the Ulster Bank Schools Cup with a trip to either Regent House or Lurgan College.The “Inst” side is one of five seeded schools to receive a bye into the second round, among them last year’s beaten finalists Foyle College who will be at home to the first round winners of the Antrim Grammar School v Friends School tie.

Northern Cricket Union Development Tour Fundraiser
The Development Tour to South Africa came under starter’s orders last Friday Night when there was a Night at the Races fundraiser at the Beechlawn House Hotel. The Union’s thanks are due to Robin Johnston who organised the event enjoyed by all. There were a few photo-finishes in the races and the shirt auction was a close run thing as well.

Under 9s Coaching - A first for the Union
The Spring Regional Development Squad sessions got under way on Sunday at the University of Ulster Sports Complex at Jordanstown. The introduction of sessions for the Under 9 age-group is a first for the Union and has come directly as a result of the tremendous interest shown in the pre-Christmas sessions.

NCU Coaches’ Association Workshops
The NCU Coaches’ Association are delighted to announce their first series of Coaching Workshops for 2015. During February and March, coaches will have the opportunity to come along and observe NCU Youth Sessions ranging from Under 11 right up to Under 17. There will be the chance to see some of the best coaches in the country in action and these sessions will no doubt serve as some of the best coach development opportunities of the year.

The NCU Coaches Association are delighted to announce that they have a brand new Dropbox account for their members in 2015. The NCUCA Dropbox folder is a simple and incredibly useful resource for coaches and is most importantly FREE for all members! The content should provide coaches with huge amounts of useful information and Smart phone / iPad apps will enable coaches to have all of their coaching resources at the touch of the button when out delivering sessions at schools or clubs.  

Cup Holders In All-Premiership Tie - Ulster Bank Challenge Cup 2015 First Round Draw
At Stormont this evening the draw was made for the First Round of the Ulster Bank Challenge Cup. Holders Civil Service North will meet Ballymena in the first round of the NCU’s Ulster Bank Senior Challenge Cup. They will have home advantage when the two Premier League sides meet on 16th May.

The NCU have released further details regarding the Underage Development Tour to South Africa scheduled for March/April 2015. A number of changes have been made to the squad previously announced and Tour Captains/Vice Captains announced.

Old Familiar Faces For Jones
Former Civil Service North captain Nigel Jones will not have long to wait next season before he comes up against his ex team-mates in his new colours of CIYMS.
The former Irish international all rounder will return to his old stomping ground of Stormont in the opening match of the Northern Cricket Union Ulster Bank Premier League on the last Saturday in April.

Northern Cricket Union Development Tour to South Africa Announcement
The Northern Cricket Union has announced details of its planned Youth Development tour to South Africa. Thirty boys in two squads and ten support staff will make the trip to Cape Town. The squads depart from Dublin Airport on Wednesday 25th March 2015, returning on Monday 6th April 2015.

Northern Cricket Union Annual General Meeting
The 2014 Northern Cricket Union Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 13th October 2014 in the PSNI Clubhouse, Newforge Lane, Belfast. All the current Honorary Officers and Assistant Directors were re-elected.
The three club nominees elected to the NCU Management Board were Daniel McConkey (CIYMS), Wylie McKinty (Larne) and David Skelton (Derriaghy). All nominees to the various Directorates were elected.
The wiiner of the Jim McMorran Award for Voluntary Service to Cricket was Les Jones (Ards).

NCU coaches database
The NCU are keen to establish a dedicated NCU coaches database with the aim of assisting both clubs and coaches within the union. The Union are aiming to gain a greater understanding of who are currently actively coaching within their club and also if there are members who have gained qualifications in the past but who aren’t currently coaching.

NIACUS - Captain's Umpire Report 2014
The Irish Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (IACUS) in conjunction with Cricket Ireland are introducing a new all Ireland Umpire Grading Structure across the various Inter-provincial Unions. This will ultimately ensure one accepted Grading system against which all umpires will be assessed.
From the start of this season, NCU Club Captains will be able to electronically access the new umpire assessment form, which will be received automatically by the NIACUS Grading contact.

NCU Publish new Development Plan for 2014-18
The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) has published its new Development plan covering the years 2014-2018. In announcing its publication President Billy Boyd and Chairman Andy Clement commented that they hoped that, post publication, the new Development Plan will  provide fresh impetus for all those involved in NCU cricket.

Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) launches positive parental behaviour in sport toolkit
Parents often play a vital part in supporting their children to take part in sport.
They play many positive roles and are often the backbone of sports activities at a local level.
However many sports organisations and clubs have struggled to address the problem of poor parental/spectator behaviour in junior sport.

Junior Cricketers playing in Adult Matches
The NCU Development Directorate wish to remind clubs of the ECB guidance covering the participation of young cricketers in adult matches.
This guidance has been adopted by the Union.
Under 13 cricketers - Explicit written consent from a parent or guardian is required before participating in an adult match.
Under 11 cricketers - Explicit prior approval must be sought through me before the player can play.

Player Clothing 2015
Coloured clothing will be used in the following competitions:
Challenge Cup, Irish Senior Cup, National Trophy, Ulster Cup, Ulster Shield, Twenty20 Cup, Twenty20 Trophy.

Predominantly white clothing will be used in the following competitions:
All League Competitions, Junior, Intermediate, Minor and Minor Qualifying Cups, Ulster Plate, Twenty20 Shield.
