This is week 2 of the Regional Development Squad programme and the turn of the Under 13s to show their paces at UU Jordanstown campus.
Almost 50 nominations were received from clubs and these have been divided into 3 groups pictured here with their coaches at the sessions - Michael Hingston, Scott Irvine and Uel Graham.

Northern Cricket Union Development Tour to South Africa Announcement
The Northern Cricket Union has announced details of its planned Youth Development tour to South Africa. Thirty boys in two squads and ten support staff will make the trip to Cape Town. The squads depart from Dublin Airport on Wednesday 25th March 2015, returning on Monday 6th April 2015.

Northern Cricket Union Annual General Meeting
The 2014 Northern Cricket Union Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 13th October 2014 in the PSNI Clubhouse, Newforge Lane, Belfast. All the current Honorary Officers and Assistant Directors were re-elected.
The three club nominees elected to the NCU Management Board were Daniel McConkey (CIYMS), Wylie McKinty (Larne) and David Skelton (Derriaghy). All nominees to the various Directorates were elected.
The wiiner of the Jim McMorran Award for Voluntary Service to Cricket was Les Jones (Ards).

Cricket Ireland invite nominations for the Toyota Coach of the Year. Winners will be invited to attend the Cricket Ireland Awards Lunch in Fallon and Byrne, Dublin, on Friday 14th November.

NCU coaches database
The NCU are keen to establish a dedicated NCU coaches database with the aim of assisting both clubs and coaches within the union. The Union are aiming to gain a greater understanding of who are currently actively coaching within their club and also if there are members who have gained qualifications in the past but who aren’t currently coaching.

The path is clear as Women's Cricket continues to grow
This year has seen Women's Cricket in the Northern Cricket Union continue to grow at an unprecedented rate with the number of clubs now offering Girls and Women's Cricket having doubled since the 2013 season.
In 2013 there were only four clubs that offered Girls and Women's Cricket (teams) within the NCU, however through the increased awareness and development work being carried out by Nigel Jones, Cricket Ireland’s Regional Development Officer in the NCU that number has now doubled to eight

NIACUS Reclaims White Stick Trophy
A team representing the Northern Ireland Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers (NIACUS) made the trip to Malahide on Saturday 27th September, and returned to the province with the elusive White Stick trophy in its satchel for the first time in several years, after registering a narrow, but ultimately deserved, 6 run win over their Leinster counterparts.

Ulster Bank Awards for August & September
Rules relaxed to allow a County Down schoolboy to win a prestigious cricket award

Taj Kwelu put in the remarkable performance of taking five wickets in seven overs without conceding a run when he opened the bowling for Bangor in Section 1 of the NCU Senior League last month against Templepatrick.
But it fell just short of clinching an Ulster Bank NCU League award which goes to bowlers who take six wickets - and all because of his age.

Charity Commission information sessions
Recent changes to legislation around charitable registration which may be applicable to sports clubs.
It is compulsory for all charities operating in Northern Ireland to apply for charity registration and the Commission is urging all charities to prepare now.  There are 12 descriptions of charitable purpose, which include the advancement of amateur sport therefore sports clubs may fall under this category.

Major sponsorship deal boosts Northern Cricket Union hopes for inter-pro success
The Northern Knights, the Northern Cricket Union's (NCU) interprovincial team, has landed a major three-year sponsorship deal it was revealed today (Wednesday 2nd April).
The deal sees professional advisory firm PwC, sign up as the three-season gold sponsor, with additional sponsorship by Sunday Life, Connect Telecom and FSS (N.I.) Ltd.
The NCU is launching a new Northern Knights website (theNorthernKnights.com), backed by a social media campaign to support the interprovincial series and there’ll be a new fantasy cricket league competition in association with the Sunday Life.

NIACUS - Captain's Umpire Report 2014
The Irish Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (IACUS) in conjunction with Cricket Ireland are introducing a new all Ireland Umpire Grading Structure across the various Inter-provincial Unions. This will ultimately ensure one accepted Grading system against which all umpires will be assessed.
From the start of this season, NCU Club Captains will be able to electronically access the new umpire assessment form, which will be received automatically by the NIACUS Grading contact.

The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) has published its new Development plan covering the years 2014-2018. In announcing its publication President Billy Boyd and Chairman Andy Clement commented that they hoped that, post publication, the new Development Plan will  provide fresh impetus for all those involved in NCU cricket.

Parents often play a vital part in supporting their children to take part in sport.
They play many positive roles and are often the backbone of sports activities at a local level.
However many sports organisations and clubs have struggled to address the problem of poor parental/spectator behaviour in junior sport.

Junior Cricketers playing in Adult Matches
The NCU Development Directorate wish to remind clubs of the ECB guidance covering the participation of young cricketers in adult matches which can be found on page 112 of the 2013 Fixtures and Rule Book.
This guidance has been adopted by the Union.
Under 13 cricketers - Explicit written consent from a parent or guardian is required before participating in an adult match.
Under 11 cricketers - Explicit prior approval must be sought through me before the player can play.
