The Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup Final will be contested by CIYMS and CSNI on Friday 29th July 2016 at the Green, Comber (North Down CC).
Play gets underway at 11.00am. Admission to the ground is £5 (adults) and £2 (school pupils).
In the event of the match not starting or finishing on the day no refunds will be given but spectators will be given a ticket for admission on the reserve date. Facilities for food and drink will be available inside the ground. [Note: no 'Carry outs' will be allowed]

The 2016 Northern Cricket Union Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup Final in Association with ClickEnergy

The final will take place on 29 July 2016 at The Green, Comber, home of North Down Cricket Club between CIYMS (Holders) and CSNI. David Holmes Presents a Video Preview of the NCU's Showpiece Day.

Running Order:
  • Introduction - North Down Cricket Club can trace their history back to 1857, with links to Thomas Andrews, designer of the ill-fated Titanic and the legendary Willie Andrews who captained the club for 39 years!
  • The Road to The Final – David recaps for us the route to the final for both sides.
  • An Introduction to Our Sponsors – Shane Matthews, Managing Director of Arthur J Gallagher in Northern Ireland tells us about the company and why they decided to sponsor the Challenge Cup.
  • Gordon Markey – Broking Director, tells us about the on the ground involvement with the NCU and the clubs.
  • Presidential Response – Peter McMorran, gives his thoughts on the day ahead and working with Arthur J Gallagher.
  • Richard Johnson – Cricket Ireland Vice-President and NCU Sponsorship Officer, gives us an overview of the magnificent Challenge Cup itself first contested in 1887 and describes how it quite literally rose from the ashes when destroyed by a fire at Downpatrick Cricket Club.
  • Andrew White – The former Irish international and current national selector shares his thoughts on playing in the Challenge Cup Final
  • The Captains – David Holmes talks with CIYMS skipper Nigel Jones and CSNI's Andrew Cowden ahead of the big day.

Regrettably rain prevented any play in the semi-finals and final of the LVS Twenty20 Cup on Saturday.
The Union's Emergency Committee met and has the arrangements for the semi-finals and final.

NCU Under 15 Tour to Denmark
The NCU U15s have just returned from their week long trip to Copenhagen, Denmark. A squad of 13 players along with coaches Scott Irvine and Wayne Hughes were away representing the union in matches against the Danish U17 side.

Junior Cricketers playing in Adult Matches
From time to time clubs approach the Union regarding the playing of Junior Cricketers in Adult Matches. It has been the Union practice to follow the ECB guidance on this matter which is set out in the Fixtures and Rules Book each year.

NIACUS - Captain's Umpire Report 2016
The Irish Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (IACUS) in conjunction with Cricket Ireland introduced a new all Ireland Umpire Grading Structure in 2014 across the various Inter-provincial Unions. This ultimately ensures one accepted Grading system against which all umpires will be assessed.
NCU Club Captains can electronically access the new umpire assessment form, which will be received automatically by the NIACUS Grading contact.

NCU Publish new Development Plan for 2014-18
The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) has published its new Development plan covering the years 2014-2018. In announcing its publication President Billy Boyd and Chairman Andy Clement commented that they hoped that, post publication, the new Development Plan will  provide fresh impetus for all those involved in NCU cricket.

Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) launches positive parental behaviour in sport toolkit
Parents often play a vital part in supporting their children to take part in sport.
They play many positive roles and are often the backbone of sports activities at a local level.
However many sports organisations and clubs have struggled to address the problem of poor parental/spectator behaviour in junior sport.

Junior Cricketers playing in Adult Matches
The NCU Development Directorate wish to remind clubs of the ECB guidance covering the participation of young cricketers in adult matches.
This guidance has been adopted by the Union.
Under 13 cricketers - Explicit written consent from a parent or guardian is required before participating in an adult match.
Under 11 cricketers - Explicit prior approval must be sought through me before the player can play.

Player Clothing 2016
Coloured clothing will be used in the following competitions:
Challenge Cup, Irish Senior Cup, National Trophy, Ulster Cup, Ulster Shield, Twenty20 Cup, Twenty20 Trophy.

Predominantly white clothing will be used in the following competitions:
All League Competitions, Junior, Intermediate, Minor and Minor Qualifying Cups, Ulster Plate, Twenty20 Shield.
