NCU Welcome to Coaching Course
As previously mentioned, Cricket Ireland were planning to run an 'overflow' Welcome to Coaching course within the NCU region. We have been very lucky to gain funding from Simon Johnston through the Active Clubs Programme to run this additional course, but unfortunately the course is once again FULLY BOOKED at this stage.

The post of NCU Public Relations Officer (PRO) is presently vacant.
The post entails keeping the press and social media informed of the Union's activities and it might be of interest to anyone interested in getting involved with the wider world of public relations.

Northern Knights Statement
James Shannon to Captain the Northern Knights for the 2016 season.
A meeting of members of the NCU Representative Directorate and Knights Selectors was held on Wednesday 13th January at which it was agreed, following Andrew White's retirement from Interprovincial Cricket, that James Shannon be appointed as Captain of the team for the 2016 season. In addition, discussion also took place around an initial Knights Training Squad for the 2016 season.

Ulster Bank Schools Cup Draws 2016
Seeding has been introduced in the Ulster Bank Schools Cricket Cup for the first time with six teams receiving automatic entry into the second round. Holders Belfast Royal Academy are one of the six and have been drawn away to the winners of the first round game between Wallace High School and Carrickfergus Grammar School.

Andrew White Announces His Retirement From Representative Cricket
Andrew White has announced his retirement from representative cricket with immediate effect.
Andrew who has captained the Northern Knights in all three forms of the Interprovincial series did so in advance of the selectors naming a pre-season training squad.

"Designated Safeguarding Children's Officer" Workshop
On request from a large number of clubs there will be a "Designated Safeguarding Children's Officer" workshop on Wednesday 27th January at the Playball Pavilion at Stormont 6.30-9.30pm.  Tea and Coffee available on arrival.

Due to exams in the main hall at UU the sessions cannot begin until the last week in January.

Further exciting developments in the Youth Programme for the 2016 season
As the new year begins the NCU are already finalising plans for their youth playing squads with trips outside the province at three different age-levels.

The Union has extended its warmest congratulations to its Past President Roy Harrison who was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List for voluntary service to cricket in Northern Ireland.

Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup Final Venue
The NCU has announced that the 2016 Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup Final will be played at The Green, Comber, home of North Down CC on Friday 29th July.
The 2016 competition is the first to be played with new sponsors in place - international insurance brokers Arthur J Gallagher.

Ulster Competition Dates / NCU Twenty20 Finals Day
The NCU regrets that the draws for the various Ulster competitions will not have been made before the Junior Leagues fixture meetings next week. (The Union does not make these draws).

Andrew White Cricket Academy - Visit of Gary Wilson
The first Masterclass under the auspices of the Andrew White Cricket Academy was held on Sunday 20th December in the Ulster University Sports Centre, Jordanstown.
Surrey and Ireland wicketkeeper Gary Wilson took two sessions for local keepers and coaches.

NCU President's Christmas Message
Robin Walsh, during his year as Cricket Ireland President, regularly published a newsletter updating us all on his latest exploits. As NCU President I have decided to plagiarise the idea, albeit my seasonal reports may not be so frequent, eloquent, or as far travelled. Hopefully they will however provide a brief insight into my recent experiences as President.

NCU Coach Education / Development Update
With many enjoying a well earned break from cricket over the winter months, plenty has been going on in the NCU with Coach Education / Development taking off since the end of the season.

MG2 add their support to the Andrew White Cricket Academy
MG2 may be a New Zealand based company but the NCU's Cricket Academy is to benefit from the fact that their UK and Ireland presence is in the hands of Alastair Burton operating here in Newtownabbey.

All meetings will be held in the Shaw's Bridge Clubhouse and commence at 7.00pm.

Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup 2016 Preliminary and First Round Draw
Arthur J Gallagher were announced as the NCU's new sponsor of the Challenge Cup at the Preliminary and First Round draw that took place in Malone Golf Club.

The Andrew White NCU Cricket Academy
Among a number of initiatives that The Northern Cricket Union have instituted is its first ever Cricket Academy. It is the 'Andrew White NCU Cricket Academy' and is being supported by its Official Partners, the Ulster University.
The Academy will also benefit from a kit sponsorship agreement with O'Neills.

NCU Cricket Show - Wrap-up Episode

The NCU Cricket Show rounds off the season with a look back at some high points low points and just a few differing viewpoint. With the departure of Neill Russell to Manchester the wrap up show is hosted by Alistair Bushe who is joined by David Holmes, Lee Nelson, Harry Doyle, Gareth McCarter, Michael Taylor and Michael Foster.

The Access NI application process is now available online. Access NI is the criminal history disclosure service for Northern Ireland which provides different levels of information about individuals.

NIACUS - Captain's Umpire Report 2015
The Irish Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (IACUS) in conjunction with Cricket Ireland are introducing a new all Ireland Umpire Grading Structure across the various Inter-provincial Unions. This will ultimately ensure one accepted Grading system against which all umpires will be assessed.
From the start of this season, NCU Club Captains will be able to electronically access the new umpire assessment form, which will be received automatically by the NIACUS Grading contact.

NCU Publish new Development Plan for 2014-18
The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) has published its new Development plan covering the years 2014-2018. In announcing its publication President Billy Boyd and Chairman Andy Clement commented that they hoped that, post publication, the new Development Plan will  provide fresh impetus for all those involved in NCU cricket.

Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) launches positive parental behaviour in sport toolkit
Parents often play a vital part in supporting their children to take part in sport.
They play many positive roles and are often the backbone of sports activities at a local level.
However many sports organisations and clubs have struggled to address the problem of poor parental/spectator behaviour in junior sport.

Junior Cricketers playing in Adult Matches
The NCU Development Directorate wish to remind clubs of the ECB guidance covering the participation of young cricketers in adult matches.
This guidance has been adopted by the Union.
Under 13 cricketers - Explicit written consent from a parent or guardian is required before participating in an adult match.
Under 11 cricketers - Explicit prior approval must be sought through me before the player can play.

Player Clothing 2015
Coloured clothing will be used in the following competitions:
Challenge Cup, Irish Senior Cup, National Trophy, Ulster Cup, Ulster Shield, Twenty20 Cup, Twenty20 Trophy.

Predominantly white clothing will be used in the following competitions:
All League Competitions, Junior, Intermediate, Minor and Minor Qualifying Cups, Ulster Plate, Twenty20 Shield.
