Northern Knights Pre Season Warm-Up Matches At North Down CC - Sunday 26th April 2015
Two pre-season warm up games have been announced for the Northern Knights.
Both games will be T20's and take place this coming Sunday 26th April at The Green, North Down CC.

NCU South Africa Development Tour 2015 - Final Tour Report and Summary
Standing in a Northern Irish cricket pavilion in the middle of January detailing the likely challenges to be met in South Africa in terms of quality of opposition, early morning starts and high temperatures will never adequately prepare those who have not toured before to the country. For the majority of the thirty one players this was their first overseas tour and for most of the younger players the first time they had been away from their families for this length of time. Six games in ten days with added sightseeing trips, the normal upset tummies, and the bumps and bruises from playing on hard grounds would test the resilience of all the players.

Regionalisation Of NCU Junior Leagues - Club Responses

I wish to extend my thanks to all clubs who took the time to consider the question of regionalisation of the lower end of the junior leagues. Clubs who responded were split with a range of strongly in favour to strongly opposed, however the majority were opposed to regionalisation at this time.

Final Day report from the NCU Development tour to South Africa
Easter Sunday was the last day in South Africa for the NCU Touring party and like all the others before on this trip it was a day of glorious sunshine. On the menu today was a visit to the Cheetah Outreach centre where everyone got the rare opportunity to stroke Joseph the oldest and largest of the centre's cheetahs.

Northern Knights Under 18s finish with a win under the lights at Durbanville
After surviving 90 overs in the heat earlier in the day the NCU U18s scored a 24 run win over a completely new District North side in a T20 night match.

On day 10 the NCU under 18s record a 44 run win over District North with Sam Gordon scoring 98no and Thomas Magowan taking 4-43 but the under 15s lose despite 75 from Jonathan Waite.

In the Senior match the start time was put back by half an hour and the game reduced to 45 overs per side to allow the overnight dew to evaporate. It was again Paddy Beverland who like yesterday ignored the pain of a finger injury to post a half century which formed the backbone of the Knights innings.

NCU Management Board Statement On League Structures
The Union wrote to clubs in September 2014 advising that following meetings with clubs it would further look at the current League structures within the Premier and Senior Leagues before reporting back to clubs with an update prior to the 2015 season.

At Western Province CC, Avenue de Mist the NCU Northern Knights Under 15s defended a total of 241 while at the Vineyard Oval the Under 18s beat WPCA Academy by 13 runs.

Active Awards for Sport Programme is open for applications
Sport Northern Ireland has announced that the latest round of the Active Awards for Sport Programme has now opened. Coach education/CPD is an eligible activity and therefore may be of interest to the NCU's clubs.

Cricket Ireland Coaches Association Conference 2015
The inaugural Cricket Ireland Coaches Association Conference will take place on April 10th-11th in Dublin - limited spaces are available so book early to avoid disappointment.

Clarification of NCU's 2015 Registration Guidance
In November 2014 the guidance in relation to registration of players for the 2015 season was issued to clubs. Contained within it was specific guidance in relation to players who would be regarded as normally resident in the Union's area.

Lagan Valley Steels T20 Cup
The holders and runners-up of the NCU’s major Twenty20 tournament will avoid each other in the early stages this season.
Civil Service North clinched the NCU’s Lagan Valley Steels Cup with a 12-run victory over North Down last season but they have been separated in the initial group stages which involve the eight Ulster Bank Premier League clubs.

Neil Russell appointed NCU Public Relations Officer
The NCU are delighted to announce that Neil Russell has agreed to be its new Public Relations Officer with immediate effect. Neil is not only well known within NCU and Irish Cricketing circles but is also heavily involved with the Belfast Giants through their webcast commentary, as well as hosting & communications work with Premier Sports / Setanta Sports where he co-commentates on a regular basis.

Ulster Bank Schools Cup - First and Second Round Draws
The cricketers of Royal Belfast Academical Institution will begin their defence of the Ulster Bank Schools Cup with a trip to either Regent House or Lurgan College.The “Inst” side is one of five seeded schools to receive a bye into the second round, among them last year’s beaten finalists Foyle College who will be at home to the first round winners of the Antrim Grammar School v Friends School tie.

Under 9s Coaching - A first for the Union
The Spring Regional Development Squad sessions got under way on Sunday at the University of Ulster Sports Complex at Jordanstown. The introduction of sessions for the Under 9 age-group is a first for the Union and has come directly as a result of the tremendous interest shown in the pre-Christmas sessions.

NIACUS - Captain's Umpire Report 2015
The Irish Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (IACUS) in conjunction with Cricket Ireland are introducing a new all Ireland Umpire Grading Structure across the various Inter-provincial Unions. This will ultimately ensure one accepted Grading system against which all umpires will be assessed.
From the start of this season, NCU Club Captains will be able to electronically access the new umpire assessment form, which will be received automatically by the NIACUS Grading contact.

NCU Publish new Development Plan for 2014-18
The Northern Cricket Union (NCU) has published its new Development plan covering the years 2014-2018. In announcing its publication President Billy Boyd and Chairman Andy Clement commented that they hoped that, post publication, the new Development Plan will  provide fresh impetus for all those involved in NCU cricket.

Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) launches positive parental behaviour in sport toolkit
Parents often play a vital part in supporting their children to take part in sport.
They play many positive roles and are often the backbone of sports activities at a local level.
However many sports organisations and clubs have struggled to address the problem of poor parental/spectator behaviour in junior sport.

Junior Cricketers playing in Adult Matches
The NCU Development Directorate wish to remind clubs of the ECB guidance covering the participation of young cricketers in adult matches.
This guidance has been adopted by the Union.
Under 13 cricketers - Explicit written consent from a parent or guardian is required before participating in an adult match.
Under 11 cricketers - Explicit prior approval must be sought through me before the player can play.

Player Clothing 2015
Coloured clothing will be used in the following competitions:
Challenge Cup, Irish Senior Cup, National Trophy, Ulster Cup, Ulster Shield, Twenty20 Cup, Twenty20 Trophy.

Predominantly white clothing will be used in the following competitions:
All League Competitions, Junior, Intermediate, Minor and Minor Qualifying Cups, Ulster Plate, Twenty20 Shield.
